Maharishi AyurVeda

You can’t swing a cat in the current zeitgeist without hearing about gut-health, sleep hygiene or longevity. Which is ironic because these things sit at the heart of Maharishi AyurVeda, one of the world’s most ancient systems of natural health care.

Maharishi AyurVeda is a comprehensive personalised health programme to prevent illness and promote perfect health and long life. AyurVeda in Sanskrit means the knowledge of lifespan. Ayur – Lifespan. Veda – Knowledge. It asks “How can we balance and optimise ourselves to transform the many thousand of nutrients we give our bodies into a full vibrant long life?”

Maharishi AyurVeda looks at you as an entire human. It understands that the mind and body are integrated systems. And that we are all individuals. Most of us value modern western medicine. It’s particularly good at diagnosing conditions. However, have you ever been to the doctor and felt that they are only looking at a small part of the picture?

Maharishi Aroma Therapy

Essential oils – the essence, lifeforce, soul of the plant is present in the flowers, fruits, leaves, branches, seeds, root or rind of the plant.

Their innate properties awakens something in our body’s own self-healing mechanism and can enhance meditation. The potential benefits of Aroma Therapy and essential oils are wide ranging and include regulating digestion and metabolism, increasing resistance to disease, reducing stress and anxiety, improving skin conditions and promoting better sleep.

Have you ever wondered why smells are so evocative?

A scent goes to the part of the brain associated with learning, emotion and memory. If the hypo-campus (where we store memories) decides that a memory is important enough it can file it away forever. This means that when you smell that scent again you remember your emotional state when the smell happened.

There’s a direct superhighway from the smelling area to the emotional centre of your brain .  So it’s primed to make these connections. There is research showing that our ability to smell and determine smell is associated with mental welbeing research. Other research suggests that this is particularly important as we age.
